Jaws wired together
Jaws are sometimes wired together after jaw surgery to let the jaws heal more easily. This message can be seen by all visitors to this site.

Sabrina () - 13/Aug/2002 1:33:32 AM I had jaw wired in for almost a month that was because I couldent stop sucking my thumb......I ate liquid food and no one could hear waht i said...the ortho said thats the only way she woul stop sucking het thumb....after that i almost stoped..I got a crib and brackets with wires and sharp spurs.....after that I got some other braces elastics in all brackets u and down and my laws were locked thats what I had ever monht then for 2 weeks....then I took off my braces adn I put a Teuscher Activator that I would wear for 9 years thne retainers for life.I wear he activator till now and it really huts my jaws...Iv also used herbst and I dont have to lock the jaws anymore im 17 Alex () - 07/Sep/2002 10:59:40 PM When my daughter had my sugery on her jaw, her jaw was wired shut for six weeks to alow healing. She had to be fed by intervenous because it was impossible for her to open her mouth. I have been to see 3 different specialists and I have been told the same thing, ( live with it ). Well I think it is that we have unsure specialists in that field here in Ontario and they need to brush up on their knowledge.
