why do jaws have to be wired together? How do you eat or talk? I am very intrested to have an answer!!!
braces freako () - 09/Aug/2002 8:50:51 PM

they are put on and you have to either eat jell o until they are healed, or through a feeding tube. you write down what you want to say, and if you have practiced in ventriloquisim, it will be easy.

I had jaw wired in for almost a month that was because I couldent stop sucking my thumb......I ate liquid food and no one could hear waht i said...the ortho said thats the only way she woul stop sucking het thumb....after that i almost stoped..I got a crib and brackets with wires and sharp spurs.....after that I got some other braces elastics in all brackets u and down and my laws were locked thats what I had ever monht then for 2 weeks....then I took off my braces adn I put a Teuscher Activator that I would wear for 9 years thne retainers for life.I wear he activator till now and it really huts my jaws...Iv also used herbst and I dont have to lock the jaws anymore im 17

When my daughter had my sugery on her jaw, her jaw was wired shut for six weeks to alow healing. She had to be fed by intervenous because it was impossible for her to open her mouth.

I'm having Jaw surgery in eighteen months and have been told I'll need to eat liquids only for 6 weeks - does that mean my jaws will be wired? I'll have to ask my surgeon!

i had jaw surgery and then i had to have my teeth wired together for 6 months... but it is worthwhile..... after theat i had braces for 9 years...then i had expanders one in the top and the other on the bottom for 3 years...and after that i got braces...that was a yeae ago..now i still have braces and will for another five years...i am now 21 and i am proud to say that i am happy with my braces!!! :)
orthogeezer () - 23/Apr/2003 7:54:27 PM

i can safely say that having this treatment scares the flying crap out of anyone but it is well worth it i mean you could do a sponsored silence and amaze all your freinds by going on for about six months. ruud
unclebug () - 05/May/2003 2:29:57 AM

does jaw surgery need to be wired. i heard that you wear elastics instead of being wired.

my lil 6 year old bro is gettin his jaws wired together in 2 days cuz he fell of his bunk bed and broke his jaw.....can anyone give us some advice on wat to do and how to help him? thanx alot...ps. does anyone think its too early to start the braces process on him...the ortho wants to wire in headgear while he cant take it out......
() - 07/Aug/2003 6:22:13 PM

If you don't like the idea of eating liquids and not being to open your mouth and speak, just say to your orthodontist that you don't want wired jaws. By law (human rights law) you would be able to say no to wired jaws. IT LOOKS PAINFUL!!!!
() - 23/Aug/2003 4:55:08 PM

U must REALLY want straight teeth to do this!
Erika () - 23/Aug/2003 5:56:10 PM

() - 28/Aug/2003 6:03:23 PM

If you are sick when you have these, you must cut the wires with wire cutters to stop yourself from choking!!

Well I think it is that we have unsure specialists in that field here in Ontario and they need to brush up on their knowledge. I'm 30 years old and I want the pain to stop it is seriously affecting my hearing on my left side. ( HELP IF YOU CAN PLEASE! )
