Archived comments: Cindy (clbscrs@enter.net) - 03/Sep/2002 3:24:21 AM We were told that my son's bite plate was to keep him from biting down in his bottom braces (we assumed to protect the bottom braces). Your info says otherwise and makes no mention of reason we were given. Are there other purposes, such as the one we were told, or what? dianne (delaney64@yahoo.com) - 07/Nov/2002 6:00:57 PM My son was fitted for this yesterday. We were told that it was to protect his top teeth from hitting his bottom braces and knocking them loose. It seems there is a more medical reason than this. Could you please let us know more about it so I can explain it better to him. He's having trouble talking and eating with it in. Is there something I can do to help him get used to it easier?? thank you!!! Anna (glitterglo563@sbcglobal.net) - 10/Dec/2002 1:01:08 AM Hey I am goin Dec 19th to get a bite plate i'm so excited! Cuz afta that i get braces! if theres anything i should know or u are around the age of 13 aim me at babyglo724 or post here! A () - 03/Jan/2003 1:15:16 AM I had this, i also got told that it was to stop me from biting on the bottom brace, but i notice that it also seperated some of my top teeth. I hardly wore the brace and kept flicking it out with my tongue, my ortho got quite angry and that there was nothing more it could so then. As for the speech and eating thing, if it is worn constantly for 2-3 days it doesnt become a problem. It is because the tongue is not used to it, so if some time is spent just feeling it with the tongue and even saying the alphabet it is quite easy to get used to. Hope i helped.
