Fixed Braces

Most people get fixed braces some time during their treatment.

They are often used as a base for other appliances to attach on to, such as headgear and nance appliances.

i was interested in lingual braces but i am not sure about it, i want to know if they have to stay on longer what are the prices range from and are there any effects,
Lisa (laureiswild@ntlworld.com) - 23/Jan/2003 5:38:48 PM

My daughter is almost certainly getting fixed braces. We want them to be as discreet as possible but don't want to spend a fortune. Does anyone know what the options are on the NHS? Is our best option metal with tooth coloured ligating modules? Am I right in thinking that the clear and ceramic aren't available on the NHS?
Da (Kaiba098@yahoo.co.uk) - 31/Jan/2003 10:42:11 AM

I have just got a fixed brace and im wondering how long they have to stay in cause it hurts a fair bit :(
Em () - 08/Feb/2003 1:11:29 PM

I don't know what the NHS can do? I think they can do the clear ones as my dentist suggested them. If your daugther is over 17 then you have to pay for braces. Your dentist should of said how long you will need your braces on. when he fitted them. Mine is about a year give or take a few months. Ask when you go to have them thightened.
Em () - 21/Mar/2003 6:56:49 PM

I have had my braces 4 2days now. And it is difficult. Not hard just takes time going round eash bracket. I am not sure if I am brushing them right but go round each bracket and under the wire. I just think it is time consuming. U will get used 2 it as it is attched 2 u.
Em () - 21/Mar/2003 6:58:55 PM

2 tell the truth I have no problems with mine sleeping. I just find it hard when I am awake 2 keep my lip over my brace but it is easier now.
Chelsea () - 22/Mar/2003 7:00:16 PM

Does it hurt when the orthodontist inserts the braces into your mouth? I have had a built in retainer before, and it didn't hurt when it was inserted in my mouth, but it did kinda hurt while it was in the process of being taken out. Also, do they hurt while you eat, or talk?
Em () - 23/Mar/2003 3:53:44 PM

My braces don't hurt me. Feel very odd and I have 2 lit my lip over them but 2 me there just odd. Some people have sores but they give u some wax 2 roll around so your lip don't catch it as much. As 4 eating. Thats quite hard. U have 2 eat little bits and can't bite things off. Like an apple or biscuit. I am getting used 2 mine so u will.
Rika () - 23/Mar/2003 7:16:30 PM

no it didnt hurt when the ortho puts the brackets on. and it dont hurt when u talk. or at least me. 4 other people it differs. It just depends on ur tolerance and ortho
keren emirali () - 01/Apr/2003 5:36:14 PM

I had my band separators put in on 1st of april 2003 and it kills. im 14 and didnt think a few bands could hurt
Em () - 01/Apr/2003 6:26:20 PM

Whats a band separator? I am having the rest of my bottom brackets fitted 2morrow.:-S I have had my front brackets no 4 2 weeks now and am used 2 them. What is the thing they put round your back teeth? Is it a metal ring or and band thing? i don't know.
Keren (emirali_k@yahoo.co.uk) - 01/Apr/2003 6:37:20 PM

Your probably talking about the jaw reset they put 2 rubber bands eitherside top-bottom of your back teeth to reset your jaw. B 4 they put on the brackets did they place 4 rubber band things between ya teeth coz thats what they did 2 day 4 me

gurl () - 02/Apr/2003 7:34:38 AM

gud thing my braces is like that.. unlike the others!!!
Em () - 03/Apr/2003 7:07:32 PM

He just stuck mine on my teeth after taking a mould and a photo. He was suppose 2 be putting more brackets on but didn't. Just need 2 build up 2 having my tooth out. Just hope I can do it.
Lauren Morgan (Morlauren2@aol.com) - 09/May/2003 1:15:22 AM

hi im gettin braces next week and alot of my friends say they hurt alot.im in for 2y.After that i'll have to wear retainers for 1/2 a year. Can my life get any worse?
Rika () - 09/May/2003 2:35:04 AM

its not as bad as it seems. All my friendz told me braces hurt esp. when they get tightened but i still havent felt the so called "pain" they experience. Maybe they were lying or maybe i have a high tolerance of pain or maybe their orthos suck! I dont know all i kno is it isnt so bad esp. after u 4get u have them on like me
Em () - 10/May/2003 4:20:25 PM

My braces didn't hurt untill he fitted my back brackets. But it could be that they are double rooted so are harded 2 move of the jaw bone. My m8 says it gets easier after the first tighening. So fingers crossed.
Kylie () - 12/May/2003 1:31:00 AM

i'm getting my braces fixed on the 13th of june, scary coz it's a friday the 13th!! anyway, how long would the initial tightness of the braces last for? i'm getting them put on between 10:30 and 12:00, and am meant to be starting work at 1:10 that day... do you think i will be able to talk normally?
Em () - 12/May/2003 5:43:46 PM

Yeah u will be able 2 talk fine. Just be carful as the braces might rub your lips.
Kylie () - 13/May/2003 7:26:56 AM

did anyone find it hard talking, like did your lips get caught and wouldn't come down (or up) over your braces? which ones do you think are they hardest to get used to? top or bottom?
Em () - 13/May/2003 5:28:38 PM

Depends on how u talk. When I talk I show more of my top teeth than bottom so they get stuck sometimes. But my bottom I am fine with.
matt (flamethrower1990@yahoo.com) - 18/May/2003 10:20:12 PM

I was wundering how braces are attached to teath? I am giting them in a few weeks so if you could get back to me by june 12.
Em () - 20/May/2003 5:50:00 PM

They use a special type of glue. I drys clear so need to worry there. On my back teeth they used a different glue as it is stronger. It is red and tastes horrible. Bit like vinigar or like it but you rinse your mouth out so you get rid of the taste. So they rub your teeth with the red stuff. You rinse. They add some other glue then the bracket. Last of they put a blue light in your mouth. That dries the glue. nothin to worry about. Doesn't hurt at all. Just feels odd when they put your lips back. Also brushing is a pain trying to get round each bracket. You will get used to them though.
andrew m () - 07/Jun/2003 5:39:14 AM

I would love more then anything to give head while i am wearing braces
Rika () - 09/Jun/2003 2:14:35 AM

Saz (xxbadchickxx9103@hotmail.com) - 20/Jul/2003 2:29:20 PM

hiya. i'm gettin my fixed braces in august. i'm not really looking 4ward 2 it. i think braces are great though, they really help your teeth, theres a lot people at my skool who wear braces so i wont be the only one. i just dont want people to been drawn 2 it :s i wantd clear ones but i cudnt i left it 2 l8 4 my ortho :s n e wayz i'm gettin pink and black bands :D
Erika () - 23/Jul/2003 12:23:20 AM

I wonder what color bands she has in that pic...if its clear she must of just put them on...same w/ white, they stain real easy. Maybe she has silver or grey? they contrast real well with the braces.
catherine () - 23/Jul/2003 10:49:18 AM

hey!! I got a problem please help me!!! My teeth is almost perfect to look at!! But I have an overbite... but if I have braces there seems no difference since it's almost perfect!!! Do you think I'll go for braces or just leave it alone?? I'm so confused!!! HEELLLPPP!!!!
Erika () - 23/Jul/2003 4:43:03 PM

Cathrine, I think you should only get braces if you need them. I have a friend, Mika, who has the same problem as you, her teeth are straight and pretty but she has an overbite. UNLESS you want your teeth to be the most perfect teeth in the world than you get braces for you bite. If not, your just waisting money. Most ppl who get braces have serious problems. If you feel you need to get them, go right ahead.
catherine () - 24/Jul/2003 10:33:46 AM

erika, so what did mika opt for? did she go for braces or not? just curious!! hehehe
catherine () - 24/Jul/2003 11:03:10 AM

ericka, you see, well, my mom just forced me to go for it but i think its gonna be fine but i think it will be irritating that most of my classmates, friends and relatives will ask "why do you have braces? your teeth is fine!! is that fake or what?!!" you see, since i go out everybody will see my teeth, since i laugh too much it will be surely obvious!!! i'm a very confident person because of that, it might take away my self-esteem!! I was scheduled August 16 and it's quite near!! and i am still confused if i'll go for it or not!!!! (i'm really scared, i dont know what's my future!!!!ü)
Em () - 24/Jul/2003 6:37:36 PM

If people make nasty comments about your braces thats there problem. They are more than likly jelous as there teeth aren't straight and would like them staight but can' affored them. Don't let them take your confidence.
catherine () - 25/Jul/2003 10:52:37 AM

thanks 4 the tip Emü oh yeah, what's NHS or NHL or NSHL, whatever it is which is used in UK!! i'm not from UK, so I don't know!!
Saz (xxbadchickxx9103@hotmail.com) - 25/Jul/2003 11:34:24 AM

hey all. i'm gettin my fixed braces at the beginning of august and i wanted them 2 be as less noticable as possible so is it better 2 get coloured bands (bcoz thats wat i really want!) or just normal plain ones? i'm really confuzed!!! plz reply!
Em () - 25/Jul/2003 6:21:06 PM

I don't know what bands as I have got clear braces. If u want colour go for colour. I don't know if the clear when stained show up as much as they do on clear? NHS is the national health service. U can get braces free on it till u are 18 then U have 2 pay :-(
Saz (xxbadchickxx9103@hotmail.com) - 26/Jul/2003 12:39:03 PM

ok fanx Em! i think i'm goin 4 pink and purple coloured bands! :D if any1 has n e pictures of coloured bands plzzz could they emil me them? fanx pplz Saz xxxxxxx
Claire () - 29/Jul/2003 9:35:24 PM

I have fixed braces on my bottom teeth Ive had them 11 months now and I love them, they only hurt wen i get them tightened, ill be gettin them off soon, my rubber bands have been replaced by elastic now.
Em () - 30/Jul/2003 6:53:39 PM

Love them. I wish I had mine 11 months. mine hurt after tightening and about a week before they are tightened so it is 2 weeks they hurt then a 2 week brake as I have them tighted every 4 weeks. I feel so tired with them. It takes all my energy when they hurt. Does anyone else have problems with the hurting just before they are 2 be tightened?
depressed () - 01/Aug/2003 5:35:25 AM

its like "God, cant i just start over" i would so take better care of my teeth. i dont want braces.
Sarah (Fallenangel0100@aol.com) - 03/Aug/2003 3:31:38 PM

omg i'm freakin out i'm really scared i'm gettin my braces on friday! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh heheheeeeeeeeee
JUPITER () - 08/Aug/2003 2:57:02 PM

Getting braces aren't that hard, they just hurt for the first week. If you take tylenol or Advil it helps alot. Use your wax, it really helps. Hope your all right.Bye!!
() - 11/Aug/2003 5:25:00 PM

my m8 said the best colour to get is pink as the food will l8a stain the brace making it a peachy colour which actually looks quite gd!!
() - 13/Aug/2003 1:15:47 PM

Who (or what) is m8??
() - 13/Aug/2003 6:35:26 PM

take a lucky guess
() - 13/Aug/2003 6:45:39 PM

I give up.
rika () - 13/Aug/2003 9:54:16 PM

my guess is thatm8 means mate as in friend, right?
Erika () - 17/Aug/2003 12:22:52 AM

Cathrine, She never got the braces, she figured that having braces would be a pain. And that she was blessed with nice teeth already.
Erika () - 21/Aug/2003 10:38:55 PM

catherine () - 22/Aug/2003 3:26:17 PM

Erika () - 22/Aug/2003 9:33:59 PM

Erika () - 23/Aug/2003 5:50:14 PM

J-MO () - 25/Aug/2003 3:57:00 PM

They hurt @ first and i was like thinkin' i don't want ne more of ur metal s**t but i got used 2 them and that was 4 months ago
catherine () - 27/Aug/2003 2:10:12 PM

im just so happy that my braces are just as not as noticable than other metal ones.. Em!! I got white metal... (just like what you said) brackets and wires! It doesn't hurt anymore and in just 3 weeks... there's alot of difference... even though my ortho still hasn't gave me elastics... i got some elastics fr a friend and that sure will correct my overbite since i asked her how 2 put it (she has experienced it) its already been 2 wks having this elastics on... she has loads of stock!! hehehe... (hope my ortho doesn't find out my lil secret!!!)
() - 30/Aug/2003 1:29:00 AM

9 days!!! I'm psyched!!!
Rika () - 30/Aug/2003 6:41:00 AM

u shouldnt put ur friends elastics on cuz u might not need them in the same postion ar her and u might need a different size and ur ortho is gonna be able 2 tell
16-year-old girl () - 30/Aug/2003 5:12:19 PM

16-year-old girl () - 31/Aug/2003 10:13:55 AM

erm...will the braces bring any hardness when......KISSING?? will it hurt my partner?
Erika () - 31/Aug/2003 11:08:43 PM

Charlie, if people are self-centered enough to not like you just because you want a better looking smile. Than they are the ones who need to be looked at diffrently. millions of people all over the world have braces! Because they want a better looking smile. I don't have braces yet, but I will be getting them in 8 days. And I know tons of people who have already had them, have, or getting them. It no big deal. Just have fun with them...no worrying!
Eliza () - 02/Sep/2003 12:57:18 PM

I have no idea where I should put this but, my upper laterals are to small to fit brackets on. When I shut my mouth they hit my bottom teeth. Could that be stopping their growth?
() - 05/Sep/2003 9:22:18 PM

i had my braces fitted today, iam in no pain!! but am told my teeth wil start to hurt tomorrow, i find that the wax is hard to stick and stay on, it keeps coming off and my cheeks just feel a little sore i thought braces would be a whole lot worse, i am already used to them, all im worrying about now is how to smile for the camera becasue i look stupid when i smile just showing my lips good luck to anyone who is getting braces, and its not as bad as it seems, i just closed my eyes throughout the treatment and before i new it , it was over xxx :)
Erika () - 06/Sep/2003 4:55:14 PM

well i finally got used to my spacers yesterday. but when they where hurting me i kept rubbing my tounge against them and not the end of it is sore. i get them off in two days and get my braces on which than i will probably start eating non-chewable food... ttyl!
Erin () - 07/Sep/2003 4:18:18 PM

i might be getting braces,im kinda scared.what do they do before they put them on,please help me fnd out!!
Erika () - 08/Sep/2003 9:18:57 PM

erin () - 10/Sep/2003 12:06:28 AM

lyn () - 10/Sep/2003 6:09:11 AM
