Hybrid Twin Block Expander Appliance
Is used to widen the palette by cranking a screw. Usually once a day. Due to the positioning of the 4 blocks of plastic (two on each side), the patient's mouth can only shut when the bottom jaw is as far forward as it will go. The blocks of plastic are shaped so that the patients jaw will slide open of the patient does not constantly push their bottom jaw forwards. The position of the plastic blocks also cause the toungue to not lie flat which causes noticeable changes to speech. This message can be seen by all visitors to this site.
