Brandi () - 19/Nov/2002 7:31:41 PM Because sometimes a person has crowded teeth because their mouth is not large enough. SO, before braces are put on they need to expand their jaw a bit to make room. Andy (awebberfan@aol.com) - 14/Dec/2002 6:26:10 AM i have had braces for a year now and am supposed to be getting them off soon, yes my teeth look fine and are straight but dont feel like they fit with my jaw at all, when i was younger i had a palet widener and it seemed to do some good but i dont know if they went far enough (i've been told by my current orthodontist that they should have gone further), i had TMJ about a year ago (had a very deep bite) and wore twin blocks for a year, my TMJ seems to have subsided with the occasional pop, but the problem is that my upper teeth feel like they need to be so much wider just so my tongue can rest comfortabley and to relieve jaw stress/strain, i sometimes even have trouble getting words out because my tongue gets caught up on my upper teeth, my question is....is it AT ALL possible to widen my upper palet/jaw anymore than it already is and then have the lower teeth be widened to fit with the top? (im 20 years old), i will do anything possible to avoid the occasional headache and just overall strain that i feel from my tongue and my upper teeth, not to mention the fact that my tongue gets caught up on my teeth all the time, im very frustrated, any kind of feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you ive been told that a schwartz plate could work for me even at my age but that it would just be a very slow process, which is something that im willing to wait for Andy () - 03/Jan/2003 2:27:30 AM ANDY!!! your dentist needs to know how difficult your speech is and how poorly your occlusal contact is. Ken (kjgary@go.com) - 29/Jan/2003 6:20:30 PM how do I unexpand?? I had an expander put in the lower arch a few years ago and everything is messed up, my oclucsion is tilted, with uneven contact. tooth enamle is being warn down tremendously and my over all appearance changed drastically for the worse, so I want to reduce the extrusion of the lower incisors and pull them back in. is this able to be done? brandon (razorraja4@aol.com) - 26/Mar/2003 12:40:03 AM hey i have an expander in my mouth and it is hard for me to talk.when i talk iam always tung twisting when iam talking iam always ssssllllurrrrrr when i talk and it make my mouth has alot of spit(larva) and i was wondering is it suppose to do that.and it is also hard for me to swalow my spit and food please help me out lil j () - 15/Apr/2003 9:35:15 PM i had this (expander)but mine wasn't removable i am so jealous jim () - 17/Apr/2003 11:24:16 PM I have one of these expander things in and it is the most uncomfortable brace i have ever had to wear. It is OK when you first get it in but then once it starts to work you are left with a giant gap at the top of your pallat and tons of spit to deal with. Ask your dentist for some wax and bung the hole with it, it makes the brace 100% better to wear. Good luck! moutius giganticus () - 23/Apr/2003 8:03:31 PM i ate mine in my sleep mouthicus gigantius () - 10/Jun/2003 7:15:54 PM im with Ty i could have chocked call 911 Suzi Calu (calubs@aol.com) - 16/Jul/2003 3:14:27 AM What is the earliest age a childs palat should be expanded? stephy () - 20/Jul/2003 5:03:49 PM i don't know but i know a girl that was in 1rst or 2nd grade and had this!
