Old Style Facemasks
These kinds of facemask are more bulky than the modern "square" facemasks. They have the added disadvantage of being joined with with one or more bars down the middle of the patient's face so they will always be able to see the facemask. This message can be seen by all visitors to this site.

Archived comments: () - 23/Oct/2002 9:11:59 PM I have that hideous blue one. I've gots to wear 16 hours a day. It's hard to concentrate cuz it's always gettin in the way. hows a girl supposed to jam on the piano or drums when she's got a big block of metal in the front of her face. John () - 04/Nov/2002 4:37:28 PM Who are you... how did you manage to get fitted with such a thing 16 hours a day... ihatefacemasks () - 08/Nov/2002 4:11:59 AM i wore i bright green facemask for 9 years and when my ortho put it one me, he wired it in and my elastics were coil springs! my ortho was crazy and all his work really made my mouth worse. he originally gave me the facemask and i had him for 10 years but he went out of business so it was taken off. then my new good one made me wear another facemask exactly like it except this one was metal and black, along with a double headgear helmet(both wired in) for 4 more years. all this time i had full bands that were never taken off, along with coil springs and the standard jasper jumper! then i got retainers and i never wore them so i am now 38 years old and wearing braces, elastics, complicated headgear, and probably another facemask if i dont get a jaw surgery(which i wont) so...these appliances will be wired in for 7 more years! wish me luck. () - 12/Nov/2002 9:49:39 PM Hi iam realy worried as iam having one fitted tomorrow they look so bad some one help! ihatefacemasks () - 13/Nov/2002 9:39:56 PM dont worry about the facemask. as long as u wear it for your hours and do what your told, it shouldn't have to be worried in. they hurt really bad though. try and get one that goes around your face, the square facemask, and get a metal one with no colors cause then it wont show to much. wish you luck. im 38 years old and this comes from experience! i just got my 3rd face mask one week ago but its not that bad! () - 03/Dec/2002 12:06:18 AM is that thing removable? (zacc3790@aol.com) - 06/Dec/2002 12:23:12 AM most of the time. sometimes the ortho wires it in tho if u dont wear it. then it hurts real bad () - 06/Dec/2002 9:56:59 PM if its removable, how do you keep it on? bandit (zacc3790@aol.com) - 14/Dec/2002 7:11:23 PM elastics. wired in w/ coil springs () - 15/Dec/2002 7:40:58 AM will someone please explain what its like to get fitted into one!!! How do they do it!!! () - 18/Dec/2002 1:48:47 AM why are all of the blue? Why is tape being used on the girl in the middle picture? I would like hide forever if I had one of those! My picture would never be on this site! I really fell sorry for you people. Why and what did you do to get that "thing" on? Ela (very lucky ) - 23/Dec/2002 8:59:05 PM I am SOOOOOOOOO glad that i only have 2 wear braces and elastics!!!!!!!!!!! Ela (...lalala) - 24/Dec/2002 8:11:26 PM That is so unfair! I mean, orthos are telling kids to wear this thing?! It's so cruel and mean! Couldn't they think of a better way to fix your teeth without having you to wear this hideous thing?! They should think of the emotional side of having to wear facemasks...really Ela (...u know it) - 25/Dec/2002 12:45:41 AM ....I'm glad i only have 2 wear braces n elastics! YEAH (sure, whatever) - 09/Mar/2003 10:48:14 PM most of you here lie wearing a facemask for 7 years- sure!!! it was wired in the whole time!! One question- How the hell do u eat, drink and brush your teeth?? Matthew () - 10/Mar/2003 7:11:19 PM What on earth is going on with people saying they have to wear a face mask for nine years, or have it wired in for years? In the UK I've seen people wearing head gear in public on less than five occasions in my whole lifetime (26 years)! One was a woman in Bognor Regis about 1988, one in Cheam, Surrey not long after, and a kid with a facebow in New Malden, Surrey and that was about 10 years ago now. I've never heard of anyone having to wear the same braces for more than two years, and after that time it's usually retainers. Is it that US orthodontists think a medical insurance certificate is a blank check, or that their customers (or their parents) have more money than sense?! Or are most of these people liars? () - 16/Mar/2003 9:59:24 PM this is an old style oh my god i have been wearing 1 for the past month it had to be wired in because i would wear it, it win be for long tho, mike () - 19/Mar/2003 12:14:02 AM i hate this, i have to wear this right now. i get made fun of all the time because of it. i hate my parents right now because of it, and i never wore it last year, so they wired it in for another 1 and a half. later () - 23/Mar/2003 7:08:39 PM Anyone saying theyve had any of these things wired in is lying. It just isnt done. The Londonator () - 26/Mar/2003 7:36:08 PM RESPECT. O.k this is not my style, i'm on the retainer section but i think thatthese things are well weird i mean no offence but it the girl up top looks like she is going in for an audition at Hannibal lector. () - 04/Apr/2003 6:28:42 PM It looks cool () - 06/Apr/2003 9:26:29 PM How do they put one on stephy () - 20/Apr/2003 2:50:17 AM I am very glad i only had to wear braces and elastics, and now its all over and i only gave a retainer!! () - 02/May/2003 2:39:11 AM What do u people mean wired in? WHere do u people come from? I have never heard of such a thing... U can't be FOrced to wear a facemask...Its UR teeth!! Wat kind of psycho orthodontist wires it in? I personally think the facemask is not bad at all.I just dont understand how some people have that wired in.. Do u mean to tell me u walk around the streets w/ THAT on? I really doubt that its true. My orthodontist is one of the best known board certified othrodontist in the US and she told me I have to wear my facemask 13-14 hours a day... and if i don't then its my problem i just have to keep on wearing it... there is NO WAY some1 can force u to wear that...NO WAY!!! IF there is such a thing as facemasks being wired in then its UR choice to have it done But I have never heard of it being done... I mean seriously how do u eat? take a shower? thats really weird.. () - 03/May/2003 3:27:51 AM All you people who wear this for 6 or 7 years I feel really bad for you because you must have gone to a crazy orthodontist. From what I know it takes about 6 months for this facemask to work so i dont know how yall wear this for years... And wired in too??? lol. Wouldn't you get a severe overbite? () - 20/Jul/2003 1:38:40 AM the facemask in blue looks so cool- i would do anything to have one () - 30/Jul/2003 6:52:24 PM god i'd kill myself if i had 2 wear 1 ov them, i'd just hide 4ever (david_davizin@hotmail.com) - 02/Aug/2003 3:59:56 PM If you say this is a Hell, what do u say about this poor guy?
