Coloured Bands for Fixed Braces
Ok... Yes I know this isn't a type of fixed brace, but I didn't know where else to put it! As well as the standard, grey bands, you can also get coloured bands. So you can go for green and red for a christmas feel, or show team solidarity by choosing the colours of your local football/baseball/rugby/etc team! My daughter has started having problems with her lips swelling, being extremely dry and chapped, very red and painful. I need to know if the bands might have latex in their composition and she has possibly developed an allergy to latex or something else in conjunction with her braces. She has had the braces on for about 10 months now. No problems until around the end of July. Now it is constant. Thanks. Ela () - 29/Dec/2002 4:02:05 PM ok,this is how they put braces on...it's really simple. First,they put on this mouth opener,as i call it. It opens your mouth up really wide so they can reach your back teeth. Then they put the cement on the brackets,which is sort of like glue. After that,they put the brackets on your teeth. When they're done doing that, they weave the archwire through your brackets. That's when you start to feel a little pressure on your teeth. If your ortho allows you to,you get to choose the colors.(i chose blue n purple). They take a little tool to put the color "donuts" on and it goes around your brackets. And that's all! When I got my tops put on, it was like 15 minutes to fit the bands on top and bottom, and then another 20-30 to put on the actual brackets. 2 months later, i had the bottoms put on in 20 minutes. The only thing that takes alot of time is fitting the bands on the back teeth! This is my second time having braces, and they have new ways to make things quicker! I got my braces on March 4 and when i went to bed at night the braces cut into my cheeks, so make sure to use wax. I had a lot of probs. so the ortho gave me this soothing flouride and this ointment to use for the sores. It works like a band-aid. I got pink and blue, but some other comboes that are good are neon green and blue or dark blue with red. Good Luck!!!!BYE! I guess that the pain is relative to the person. For me, it took a turn for the worse. I had braces for 20 months, when I turned 14. To be honest, when I first got my braces, it HURT like hell. My mouth was VERY sore and my cheeks constantly got cut from the hooks on my 8 back bands. I had filling drinks, soup, and other foods that I did not have to chew for two weeks. I did not sleep the first night I had them on. After two weeks, I started eating foods that I would have to chew. But three weeks later (one week before my first tightening appointment), after I ate chewy foods, my doughnut elastics started breaking off, and my wire constantly popped out. Also every month, I did not get a choice of wearing colors every time with my braces, my first tightening appointment, I got switched to those painful tie wires and rubberbands. Tightening appointments were a nightmare for me. I liked how my braces looked on me and my friends loved how they looked but they were a huge pain. When I got them off I was way happy but I did not like the idea of having to wear a retainer since it was annoying, but now I really regret it because my teeth are going back to their original positions. :/ To those who are going to get their braces off soon, it does not hurt except for when they scrape the glue off (but that only hurts a little), and wear your retainer, because if you don't, than having braces is not worth the time and the money. Severed () - 23/Mar/2003 12:26:54 AM Blue goes with a lot of colors, virtually any other color. It also depends on the shade of blue that you want. But I must say, to stay away from white. It stains. I'm glad I never got white elastics while I had braces on. ;) I got a lot of dark colors while I had braces on but half the time I got metal ties. Oogle () - 29/Mar/2003 4:25:00 AM I got braces on my lower teeth today.. it didn't really hurt except when the ortho pressed the cotton wads against my unhealed canker sore. And boy did it HURT. Last week, she put on these metal thinger for my bite plate. They were constantly cutting into my cheek! They're still sore. The ortho accidently scraped the bite plate wires onto my sores.. Ugh. Luckily, my teeth aren't that out of shape. I think treatment time for me is round a 18 months or so. I chose blue (bands) but then the ortho chose pink for some reason. I hate pink. So they will be taking molds of your teeth or impressions, it feels like they put silly puddy on your teeth. Than They'll be taking lots of x-ray's of your mouth, the all around view, right and left side, and your front. They will also use a digital camera to take before pictures of your mouth. Than they will call you in 1-3 weeks and tell you parent/s what you will need to be done, if you need them your third appt. will be too put spacers in, if you don't need them than you will just be getting your braces in. Spacers are what they put between your teeth in the back to space them out about a week before you get your braces. Spacers is usually your third or fourth appt. depending on what you need done. Than 4-10 days later you'll go back in and get your braces. I haven't gotten my braces yet but I got all my records done. The only part that sucked is I gagged when they put the mold in my mouth and they use these plastic things like in the picture for bonding(brackets on) and pull back, that was the worst experience so far for me.
