My bands and second bicuspid brackets are silver. Of all those colors I think the gold looks the best. The boy in the next chair over actually got gold top and bottom so I know there are others out there! I had to ask for them because most assistants assume you want the traditional tinsel teeth look. My braces and teeth don't look at all like the model's (I think it's that earthy lipstick and low lighting that are casting a yucky yellow tone on everything). They all put colored bands in. i have seen them use red, black, blue, etc. i think any color would be fine.Just dont get gold braces unless it fits your skin tone. It looks good with like darker skin tones. Not cacausion people. I am african american but i prefered silver but just makemsure it looks good with ur skin. whateva color jewelry u wear most then get braces that color so u wont look weird. Rika Kylie () - 31/Mar/2003 1:49:18 AM hi rika, well, i wear gold and silver jewellery, but i think the gold ones would be less noticeable... even though i'm only having them on my bottom teeth. and i am a fairly pale person, but i guess i will never know what they will really look like on me until i get them on... and if i don't like what i see, i guess it's too late to change over to silver!!! Angie () - 02/Jun/2003 1:03:58 AM I prefer the silver braces over the gold and ceramic. Gold braces are tacky and the ceramic braces stain. Plus gold is a SOFT metal. Why would someone want to have a soft metal straightening their teeth? The traditional silver braces are the cheapest and fast way to go. Stephanie () - 13/Jul/2003 8:49:49 PM After reading all of these comments, I realized that nobody has really asked their ortho these questions. Silver & gold brackets do exactly the same job, it's just the color difference. One metal is not stronger or does better than the other. The clear is cosmetically nice, however they tend to yello or stain depending upon what you eat and therefore may make your teeth look yellow. I recently got gold braces and I like them. They are different, then getting the same old silver. It's really a personal choice. But, ask questions and know the facts.
