Archived comments: Todd (SPCALLER@MSN.com) - 08/Oct/2001 8:32:58 PM Hi I wanted the orth to do this for me but he said that would be too cumbersome and gave me buttons on the back of the teeth intead, kinda like the fangs or tines of barbed wire... It has helped alot though. :) Lisa () - 23/Jan/2003 5:25:07 PM My son sucks his thumb and I thought I would just need to wait until he got older and take him for a brace. I'm very interested to know there are things that can be done to stop the thumb sucking. Does anyone know whether this is available on the NHS? () - 14/Feb/2003 12:49:29 AM is this painful? Jacqueline (feliz16@hotmail.com) - 11/Mar/2003 7:22:55 PM I recently got this crib and well at first it's a little uncomfortable, but little by little you get use to it..only thing I dislike about it, is that when I talk I sound a little different..but perhaps with each person it works differently... cheerstar () - 29/Mar/2003 9:16:00 PM lisa: if i were you i wouldn't wait because thumb sucking causes bad overbites, underbites and/or crossbites (Those caust alot more to fix) Concerned Mom (pundit66@hotmail.com) - 30/Mar/2003 9:06:05 PM I am surprised to read that this appliance is designed to keep kids from sucking their thumb. Our Ortho recently fitted my son with one (crib) to "correct his swallowing habit and retrain his tongue". I am concerned that his speech has been drastically affected and that may cause more damage than his slight overbite (reason we took him to an Ortho in the first place) would have caused. Is this appliance and procedure common place and is there the possibility that my son woiuld need a specch therapist at end of treatment in 6 months? todd (spcaller@msn.com) - 25/May/2003 11:46:22 PM im gay Da Londonman () - 11/Jun/2003 9:53:13 PM really...YEEEEAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHH 911 911 hold on 999 999 999 Brenda (nephesys@hotmail.com) - 26/Jul/2003 3:40:11 AM Hello-- I don't know if your question has been answered by now, but if it has not, I can answer. I had to used the fixed crib for eight months (August 2002-April 2003), and at first, it was very uncomfortable. I lost a couple of pounds because most of the food that I ate would get stuck in it, and I ate so slow, that by the time I finished to swallow my food, I would not be hungry anymore. My speech got affected a little; I could not pronounce the Ts, Ss, Ds, and Rs, but with a lot of reading and talking loudly (and my friend's jokes) it got a little better. But DO NOT WORRY. Your son is not going to need speech therapy. When the Doctor took out the crib, I could talk as normal as before, and I am more cautious now with my swallowing (I am 18 years old and I had a bad swallowing habit). () - 27/Jul/2003 6:33:43 PM I am saking my ortho to get one of these cribs, beacsu I suck everything y get my hands on, pens, remote, u name it. And I want to stop. How are these fitted? What do they feel like? How do i ask my ortho? () - 27/Jul/2003 6:37:17 PM Brenda. Why did you get the crib for? What age were you when you got it? Dave (davidcollinsfm@hotmail.com) - 02/Aug/2003 6:15:52 PM Do u can eat well with that? Brenda () - 02/Aug/2003 11:03:51 PM Hi. I am eighteen years old. I got the crib because I needed to correct my swallowing habit and retract my tongue. Actually, I was told that I needed braces a long time ago but because aestetic matters (I had a lot of complexes) and money I was able to get them last year. Brenda () - 02/Aug/2003 11:07:24 PM I don't know if this has happended to anyone before but I could not eat those foods that you bite off, like sandwiches. I had to cut it all in small pieces so I could eat them. Food could get stuck on the crib and I was a slow eater because I tried to avoid that, and by the time I did, my food would be cold and I would not be hungry anymore. () - 07/Aug/2003 6:27:16 PM One of my friends had this, when everyone say it in her mouth they asked her what it was for and she told them it was to stop her sucking her thumb. After this, everyone just laughed at her. She wore it for about 3 months and it got in the way of her tongue. (Un)fortunately they can do this on the NHS!!! :( |
